A virtual consortium meeting and research workshop held within the HELA project

On Thursday and Friday, 21st-22nd October, 2021, a virtual consortium meeting and research workshop were held within the HELA project. The event was held via Zoom platform.

On Thursday, October 21st, HELA project leader, Prof. Nina Begičević Ređep, PhD held a consortium meeting where she presented implemented project activities and achieved results in the seven months of project implementation. Project co-leader, Prof. Diana Šimić, PhD followed with a presentation on „Theoretical and Conceptual Framework of Learning Analytics“, which she used to explain the motivation and theoretical background behind the HELA project and the relation of research activities carried out within the project with its purpose and results.

On Friday, October 22nd, members of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) project team presented the results of research achieved within the project, through three modules:

1) Conceptual framework of learning analytics (LA):

Communities of Practice in LA and educational data mining (EDM), Sabina Rako, M. Sc.

Ethical and privacy issues and guidelines of LA, Barbara Šlibar, M. Inf.

2) Strategic planning and decision-making related to the implementation of learning analytics:

Benefits, challenges and policy on implementation of LA, Prof. Marina Klačmer Čalopa, PhD

3) LA use cases:

Introduction, Prof. Nina Begičević Ređep, PhD, Prof. Diana Šimić, PhD

Students’ Lab Assignments, Jelena Gusić Munđar, M. Math.

Military and nonmilitary studies, Asst. Prof. Nikola Kadoić, PhD.

Following, there was a research workshop led by Prof. Bart Rienties, PhD from Open University, London, titled „Practical implementations of LA“ through which participants were introduced in an interactive way to the concept of learning analytics.

The event ended with a group discussion on the conducted workshops and planning of upcoming research activities due to the end of the first project year.
