Erasmus+ project AI2SEP had meeting and study visit in Varaždin!

From September 16 to 19, 2024, members of the consortium Erasmus+ project Developing Talents in Artificial Intelligence to Solve Disruptive Environmental Problems – AI2SEP stayed in Varaždin, where a partner meeting and a study visit were held.

SUZG FOI as the host hosted partners, members of the AI2SEP Erasmus+ consortium. On the first day of the stay, September 16, 2024, a project meeting took place, the first after the initial meeting in Poland in mid-January of this year. After greetings from the vice-dean for science, projects and international cooperation, Assoc. prof. Ph.D. Martina Tomičić Furjan, head of the SUZG FOI project team, Prof. Ph.D. Vjeran Strahonja held the introductory part of the meeting and dedicated part of his time and words to honor the late project leader Dr. Hab. Andrzej Grzybowski, prof.

After the opening remarks, each partner presented their work, i.e. the status of their tasks and the plans for further work on the project activities for which they are in charge. The University of Silesia from Poland, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University from Košice in Slovakia, Vilnius University from Lithuania, University of Maribor from Slovenia and UNIZG FOI respectively presented their activities. The second part of the meeting began with a conversation with the manager of the Oracle Academy program for Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine, M.Sc. Darko Jureković. Mr. Jureković presented the Oracle academy program for educational institutions and presented the potential and possible applications of Oracle services and applications in the field of artificial intelligence. At the end of the first day, AI2SEP project managers Pulina Trybek and Joanna Stelmaszak presented upcoming tasks and activities that must be completed by the end of the current calendar and the upcoming 2024/2025. academic year.

On the second day of the stay, the study visit began, which lasted a total of three days. The first step of the study visit was a tour and introduction to the operation of the DC North data center. Thanks to the friendliness of Mr. Matija Grabar, Mr. Darko Pintarić and Mr. Tomislav Vugrinc, members of the project team had the opportunity to see the data center built with the application of the most modern technologies and standards, and to receive information about methods of reducing energy consumption in data centers, the application of modern management systems data centers and the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the optimization of energy consumption.

After the visit to the data center, an invited lecture on "Introduction to Green software: Impact on curriculum development" was held in the premises of UNIZG FOI for members of the consortium, which was held by Doc. Ph.D. Marko Horvat from UNIZG , Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing.

On the third day of the stay, or the second day of the study visit, the members of the consortium participated in the 35th CECIIS conference (Central European Conference on information and intelligent systems), the topic of which was Cyber-physical and embedded systems.

On the last day, organized by the SUZG FOI partner team, a workshop was held on the subject of Learning Design, and especially the application of the Balanced Design Planning (BDP) tool, which was developed at FOI. The workshop covered the following topics: Methodology of learning design; Learning design with the support of BDP tools (with the participation of Prof. Blaženka Divjak, Ph.D.), on the example of the Machine Learning Algorithms course; Design learning and analytics to support quality assurance; Group and individual discussions.
