CECIIS panel diskusije
On behalf of the organizers of this year's international scientific conference "Central European Conference on Information and Intelligent Systems - CECIIS 2021", we invite you to attend interesting panel discussions, which we have opened for all interested stakeholders. Read more below.

Academic Panel discussion ‘Accelerating smart industry and digital transformation’ will be held on the first day of the conference, on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021, starting at 13:00. The panel is coorganized by Infodom and chaired by Prof. Neven Vrček, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Organization and Informatics and the panellists are: Dr. h. c., prof. h. c., prof. Dr. Ing. Oliver Moravčík, Rector at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, o. Univ.-Prof. Dr. techn. Dimitris Karagiannis, Head of Research Group Knowledge Engineering, University of Vienna, Prof. Dr. Slavko Vidović, founder of Infodom and Prof. Dr. Henry Muccini, Full Professor in Computer Science at  the University of L'Aquila.

Panel description:

Smart industry is a concept that has been built into development strategies of many states and is perceived as a cornerstone of future economic growth. The idea is based on total redefinition of production business processes, innovative ecosystems and extensive use of state of the art technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, internet of things, etc. Beside obvious desire to boost economic growth, smart industry is also very important in geopolitical terms as a concept of reindustrialization of western economies which lost significant amount of its production capacities and research and development capabilities in the massive process of outsourcing to cheaper labor force countries. Today it is generally accepted that sustainable economic growth has to be tightly related to modern and globally concurrent production capacities i.e. smart industry. This idea was additionally augmented during last COVID crisis, which exposed fragilities of economies that do not have at least moderate production capacities to sustain during crisis in the circumstances of closed borders and slow logistics. However, it is clear that some countries make significant smart industry development leaps, and that some are struggling to implement their smart industry strategies. This panel seeks answer to see what a country and society can do to enhance development of smart industry. In other words, what interplay of main stakeholders: business entities, scientific community and regulators is necessary to develop smart industry and contribute to general development of modern enterprises?

Second Panel discussion ‘Emerging research areas: the vision of journal editors' will be held on the second day of the Conference, on Thursday 14th of October, 2021 starting at 12:00. The aim of the panel is to discuss emerging research areas, and it will be held by chairs Prof. Igor Balaban, Ph.D. Vice-Dean for Science, Projects and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics and Prof. Josep M. Duart, Ph.D. Editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education (ITHE) from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain. Besides the moderators, panellists are: Prof. Wim Van Petegem, Ph.D. Editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning (EURODL) from KU Leuven, Belgium, Prof. Denise Whitelock B.Sc. M.Ed Ph.D. Editor-in-chief of the Open Learning: The Journal of Open, Distance and e-Learning, from the Open University, UK and Prof. Alen Lovrencic, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, University of Zagreb, Croatia.

Panel description:

Four editors-in-chief from different journals will share in this session their vision about the new emerging research topics on educational technology. This is an opportunity to have access to the editors-in-chiefs’ mind-sets related to the emerging research topics, and an opportunity to know better some important journals in the field of information science and especially in the field of e-learning. The participants will have the opportunity to discuss with the editors the ideas presented during the panel. The panel is primarily designed for young researchers and PhD students, but the participation of experienced researchers will be highly appreciated.
